Wish you were here...

Bass Harbor Lighthouse Acadia National Park Maine

A picture is worth a 1,000 words, isn't it. We've been here in Maine since Thursday afternoon. The trip from Vermont was uneventful, used a 2 lane road, never made it over 50 miles an hour.  It was raining and the road was very curvy but good. Friday it was very foggy and rained too, but we still managed to go over to Acadia and look around a little.

Today, we woke up to sunshine! Headed to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, which is one of the few you can see from land.

This lighthouse is active and the beam can be seen from 13 nautical miles away.  The US Coast Guard maintains it.  A coast guard family lives in the house.

We walked up these stairs to the top.

This is a picture of the lens that makes the light, you can actually see our reflection in it.

Don't these look perfect!

We drove a ways and took a hike to Ship Harbor trail.  Just a 1.7 mile walk, with amazing views.

We took a lot of pictures didn't we?  It's just breathtaking.  Reminds us a lot of the Oregon coast, although I think this is a little more rocky, granite everywhere.

Afterwards, we headed back to the campground and stopped at Atlantic Brewing company.

Tasted some very good micro brews and had a sandwich too.  It was a great day!

Tomorrow, who knows what we will find to explore....
