The " hills are alive",,,maybe it should be mountains..

Vermont is gorgeous! This is the view from the Von Trapp Family Lodge in the mountains overlooking Stowe, VT.  (Hills are alive,,,Sound of Music,,,for those of you old enough,,,)

But I guess we should start at the beginning, shouldn't we.  Tuesday we drove through rain all day from New York, survived the freeways and the road construction.  We arrived in St Johnsbury, VT around 3pm.  We are staying at the Moose River Campground.

We really like this campground.  Sort of wish we had some more time to spend here.

Last night we went out to dinner.  Asked the campground host for a recommendation.  She told us about Mooselook restaurant.

She told us it wasn't fancy, that was fine by us, we were just hungry since we hadn't eaten much all day.

This is what it looked like!  YES, we did go in,,,this is what Rog had for dinner..

This is the Fisherman's platter, haddock, clams, shrimp and scallops!  (and yes, he is wearing a B100 shirt and he ate it all)

The food was amazing, we were both stuffed.  Moral of the story, never judge a restaurant by it's exterior!

Today we got up and headed west toward Stowe, VT. Wanted to check out Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, Cabot Cheese and the Von Trapp Family Lodge.

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory, Stowe, VT.

Part of this lodge was the original Von Trapp family lodge, built in the 60's.

On the way back to our camper we saw a rainbow.  We actually saw where the rainbow hit the ground.  No pot of gold though.  It was beautiful.  Don't know if you can make it out in this picture or not.

We leave Vermont tomorrow, headed to Bar Harbor, Maine.  We really enjoyed seeing the countryside.  Driving through many small towns.  Vermont seems to be made out of small towns and mountains.  No "big box stores", no malls, can't say I even saw a regular grocery store.  Just people finding a way to make a living supporting one another with their trade or business.  Just people helping people.  I think we will be back some day.  There is much more to see.

On to Maine!  Our adventure continues!
