Three days of "Wow, would you look at that"

It's been awhile since we posted anything.  We've been very busy, between hiking, biking and shopping.

Tuesday we hiked 4 miles on a path that followed the north coast of Mount Desert Island.  Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are both on Mount Desert.  I know I've used the word breathtaking several times, but it's the only thing word I can come up with to describe this place.

This path follows the rocky coast. Sometimes, right on the cliffs, and others

through the forest.

I think we've mentioned before that the majority of these rock formations are granite.

We did see some puffins and otters.

This is called Thunder Hole. It sounds like thunder when the waves crash in and into the underground cave.

This is called Sand Beach. We think this might be the only sand in Maine!  It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed walking beside the ocean.

This is our campground, Rog says we could have a runway behind our fifth wheel!

Wednesday
We decided we would try out the Carriage Roads with our bikes in the national park.  They were created by Roosevelt in the early 1900's.  This area was very popular with the wealthy east coast citizens.   There are 45 miles of roads, that are only used by bicycles, walkers and the carriages.

This is the entrance to one of the roads.  We rode for 12 miles.

This is Eagle Lake we rode around

The water was SOOO clear!

so clear you could see the tadpoles on the bottom!

No, we weren't lost!  Just checking to see how far we had ridden.
It was a great day, we really enjoyed it.  Hoping to get back out and try out another path, before we leave.

Thursday

Today, we headed to Cadillac Mountain.  The highest point at 1530 feet in Acadia National park.
We did not hike up!  Although, there are paths you can take.

Cadillac Mountain was formed by a volcano and glaciers.

We were up there climbing all over the rocks for hours.  It was just so beautiful.

This is Eagle Lake from the Mountain top, the one we rode our bikes around.

After our day on the mountain, we headed back to Bar Harbor for some more shopping and lunch.  It was another wonderful day in Maine!
Till next time!
