Anyway, when we decided to buy the fifth wheel we thought wouldn't it be cool to travel all the way out here with it. A big endeavor to say the least, over 3,000 miles. The way we came, it was over 4,000. We arrived in Newport, Oregon on the 5th of May. Stayed at the Beverly Beach State Park. A very unique park in as much you walk under US 101 bridge to get to the beach. The park sits along Spencer Creek which runs into the ocean.
View from our dinette table towards the ocean.
Our campsite, see the red truck.
Headed to the beach
Oregon beaches are not bathing suit beaches, although you will see surfers in dry suits catching some waves. Oregon beaches are raw, powerful, untouched by man, miles of ocean, rocks, sand and nature.
Yaquina Head Lighthouse
Just soaking it up.
This is where Rog took the picture of the lighthouse from.
There is no shortage of driftwood.
We did drive north about an hour to check out Pacific City....couldn't help ourselves. The "Rock
and beach" seemed to be calling us.
We stopped in to the Inn and said hello to the manager. Grabbed a bite at the Pelican and headed home.We took a day from being photo fiends to go help Rhonda and Ivan. They bought a new home in Salem, Oregon. We helped them unload the U-Haul. It's a great home and wonderful views of the foothills. We are very happy for them. They in turn came to spend a few days with us at Beverly Beach. Ivan's brother, Scot and his wife Amy were also camping there. We had a fun time with them all.
This is the South Beach fish market and roadside restaurant. Best fish and chips ever!!!
We visited Rogue Brewery in Newport. You can find their brews in stores in Indiana.
Had to have a taste.
Rusty Truck Brewing was inside the Roadhouse 101.
Rog and Ivan checking out the GMC.
Newport bridge
We took a three mile nature walk along Spencer creek in the campground. This is Rhonda and Rog checking out some salamanders in a swampy area.
These are called Octopus Trees
Amy, Scot, their dog Greta, Rhonda and Ivan on the trail
It was a great walk through everything "green".
Back on the beach...
Any guesses whether this was still standing after about 3 minutes...
This is Cape Foulweather
Whale watching boat coming into the harbor. Depoe Bay is supposed to be the worlds smallest operational harbor.
very low tide
One night Rog got some wonderful sunset pictures. We will only share a few with you. Aren't digital cameras the bomb?
Ok, now we have a trivia question for you, who can guess what this little guy is?
You will have to read the next blog post to find out if you were right!
Now we are in Fort Stevens State park just south west of Astoria, Oregon. For those of you who think that our travels are all fun and games, we would like you to know that isn't necessarily so. It was less than 150 miles from Beverly Beach to here. Took us 4 hours. Foggy, rain and curvy highway 101 did not make for a fun drive. We were hoping to stop and take some more pics along the way. Some of the views are spectacular. We couldn't even see the ocean it was so foggy.
You remember our view from our camper at Beverly Beach,,,here is our view from our camper now..
We feel like we are in a rain forest :)
(well we are in Oregon you know)
We will try to post again in a few days, hope everyone is doing well. Miss you all!
