We started by making a stop in Dayton, Ohio. We wanted to check out the National Air Force Museum. If you are ever in the area it is well worth the time. We were there for 4 hours and only saw about half of it.
There are 4 different hangars full of exhibits organized by date. We were glad we made the stop.
Next we headed to Levi Jackson State Park in Kentucky. Nice park right off I75. Main reason to stop here was so we could check out Cumberland Falls State Park. Dave and Anita K told us about this area and we've been looking forward to seeing it.
This is McHargue's Mill in Levi Jackson.
About an hour drive away is Cumberland Falls. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Rog is holding up the slabs of stone,,,well,,,,
Lots of steps
We read that there was a hike to another fall, Eagle Falls. So, off we went, supposed to be a moderate hike....don't believe everything you read..
I wouldn't have made it without my walking stick. Rog counted over 300 steps one way.
The views were worth it though.
When we finally got to Eagle Falls, it was a little bit of a let down, but still glad we did it.
We highly recommend if you are in the area.
As I said we are in Georgia now. Skidaway is a barrier island just to the southeast of Savannah. We haven't made it into Savannah yet, but we will. We did make a trip with Kennen and Terri over to Tybee Island yesterday. You gotta love the ocean, (at least we do)
Boardwalk on Tybee Island beach
footprints in the sand
shell hunters
Water was so warm
Tybee Island Lighthouse
On the way back to Skidaway we stopped at Fort Pulaski, which was a Confederate fort captured by the Union Army.
After other forts we have seen this year we were surprised by what good condition it is in.
Skidaway State park is nestled in the moss draped trees surrounded by marsh and wetland. There are a few hiking trails and it is very serene.
Our campsite
On a trail
Boardwalk through the marsh
We met these two rangers working on the trail,,we told them we would like to add them to our blog
We will leave you this time with this sunset over the marsh, beautiful isn't it?
We will check back in with you in a few days.
Take care everyone and keep Grabn' life!
What a lovely trip! Don't pick up the Spanish moss. There are mites in it. I got a few bites on my feet when we were at Hilton Head.
